Veterinary Chiropractic

Veterinary spinal manipulation or “chiropractic” care refers to the process of returning a joint to its normal range of motion. When a joint’s movement becomes restricted or “stuck”, it can also affect the surrounding veins, arteries, and nerves limiting blood flow and creating nerve pain. Left untreated, joint restrictions can cause the horse to compensate in posture and movement leading to secondary musculoskeletal injuries. These issues may cause the horse to feel unbalanced under saddle, have decreased athletic performance, difficulty with some movement patterns, and even behavioral changes.

Acupuncture

Traditional chinese medicine (TCM) uses acupuncture to balance the flow of energy, qi, through pathways in the body. Stimulation of acupuncture points have been shown to stimulate nerves, increase blood circulation, relieve muscle spasm and inflammation, and cause release of endorphins and hormones. Acupuncture points are commonly found in areas of free nerve endings, lymphatics and mast cells. TCM takes into account environmental factors, stress, and lifestyle on the patient’s health.
